The safest ways to detox heavy metals

By now, people are aware of the ominous presence of heavy metals and the fact that they can wreak incredible havoc inside the body. These heavy metal problems get labeled as autoimmune disorders, mental problems and much more. Whatever you decide to call them, these disorders often have their state of origin in some heavy metal toxicity.

Detoxifying heavy metals is not the easiest or safest task, unless you know techniques that can largely eliminate the inherent issues with their removal. Here are two ways that it can be done much more safely.

Infrared sauna

Far-infrared technology (FIR) is a non-invasive form of light therapy that can penetrate as deep as 3 inches into the body and can heat muscle tissues and internal organs to the point that they push toxins into the bloodstream where they can be eliminated through your sweat. This includes heavy metals.

Infrared sauna's heaters emit radiant heat that helps the body perspire at approximately 80% water and 20% waste and toxins. Traditional saunas using air and steam have a ratio of 97% water and 3% toxins. Research has indicated that infrared saunas are seven times more effective at removing toxins than traditional saunas, so for that reason, it is the clear choice!

When starting to use an infrared sauna, you need to be careful to not overdo it. Many experts recommend the first session to be about five minutes, and gradually increase by 30 seconds each session until you reach 15-30 minutes. Proper hydration and a mineral-rich diet are important factors to consider around prolonged sauna usage, as well as a hot-cold cycled shower, to safely maximize the benefits of the process.

Clay baths

Another great heavy metal detoxification process is through warm clay baths.

To understand how this works, we need to understand that toxins like heavy metals have a "positive" charge to them, whereas clays like bentonite and zeolite (both rooted in volcanic matter) have a "negative" charge to them. As a result of this difference in charges, clay uses the process of adsorption, which is the process of electronically attracting and binding to the surface, rather than absorbing like a sponge.

Since the skin functions as a pathway rather than a barrier and is one of the primary detoxification organs of the body, soaking in a very warm bath allows this adsorption to take place, which effectively draws out bio-accumulated toxins from within the body. This also takes pressure off the liver and kidneys for removal.

There are certainly other heavy metal chelation methods like supplementation, but one has to be careful with this method, as it can put undue strain on your detoxification system and cause these metals to become lodged in other areas of the body. You can also consider heavy metal binders like chlorella and cilantro, but again, moderation is key so as to not release heavy metals that can't be properly metabolized due to compromised liver function.
